    #1 If you are an Oud player just starting out and have purchased a really nice Oud, remember to always keep your finger nails manicured /trimmed so they do not damage the fingerboard of the Oud.  If your finger nails are long they will actually slice into the wood (ebony, etc) and create small grooves in the fingerboard as you play which adversely affects the sound of the Oud over time.  You want the fingerboard to stay smooth!  VMS
