For about two years now I’ve been working with a fantastic LA based indie/pop band named The Monthlies. Over the past few weeks we’ve been putting the finishing touches on their upcoming EP titled “Horror Flick“, which will include a very cool version of Dexys Midnight Runner’s ‘Come on Eileen’. If you search YouTube for this song you will see that several groups have covered it, but most versions are similar to the original. Not this one!

The Monthlies, in doing what they do best, have put their own unique spin on this 80’s pop standard. I won’t say much about what you’re going to hear other than if you are expecting an updated rehashing of the Dexys version you’re in for a big surprise. We hope you enjoy The Monthlies version of ‘Come on Eileen and please leave a comment below if you’d like to share your thoughts with the band.

I heard this song today for what could easily be the millionth time since it came out last year. It was a massive radio and club hit and by now most people are a over it. But every time I hear it I get chills over Lil Mama’s part. So I’m wondering, where the heck IS Lil Mama?

Her performance on this track is one of the best I’ve ever heard in hip-hop. Her ultra-tight syncopations against the beat and her street ‘I don’t give a F$%&!’ attitude are perfectly executed. So why is she not on the top of the R&B and Pop charts?

Here’s the track. Let me know what you think before someone makes me take it down. It’s a good way to kick off the weekend.

    TURN IT UP!

DJ Emi and his Tribe are back with a site redesign and a weekly show featuring the crew mixing house music for the masses. Emi’s been all about Ableton Live lately and uses Waves L2 plugin to finish his tracks. I think you’ll agree that his mixes and the audio quality sound fantastic!

Vinyl Tribe is based in LA and perform around town quite a bit. If you haven’t heard any of their work give it a listen here: TribeRadio

I know, I know, but soft rock hits from the 70’s have such a warm sound. Even the CD’s sound like vinyl. This is a great collection. I recommend it to anyone who is not only into music, but also into audio. If you make records you need to give this a listen.
