WANTED: On-Call Jam Session Extraordinaire – 24-Hour Notice, Fly Anywhere In The Word, & Rock

image from vegasexpressjet.com Musicians often loathe day jobs, but they pay the bills. Imagine if your full-time job was to be an on-call jam session extraordinaire.

With 24-hours notice, you could be flown anywhere in the world. Once there, you would be expected to play from a huge catalog of rock classics and be able to improvise like nobody’s business. This means that you wouldn’t be able to take long vacations, have New Years plans, or join any other band. You might only work a few days a month, but once called, you had to report to Hawaii or Africa. It doesn’t matter.

Would you kill for a job like this? Rumor has it, somebody did.

Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen reportedly has a small staff of on-call musicians. Whenever he feels like rocking out or entertaining guests, anywhere in the world, it’s their job to drop what they’re doing, get on a private jet, rock their socks off for a group of billionaire strangers, and then leave. This could be an urban legend.

Maybe not.

But over the years, technology writer Matt Rosoff has heard this tall tale several times and he’s starting to believe that there’s truth to it. Allen could afford it.

Would you take The Paul Allen Gig?
